Physical Temple & Ritual Magic Workbook

Greetings with light all. I am currently ready Dolores Ashcroft-Nowicki's book - The Ritual Magic Workbook and I have a question I hope someone with more experience than me can clarify. In the chapter of the first month, she suggests that if you are unable to dedicate a permanent room to temple work, you can alternatively make do with a Temple floor cloth. Part of the process of preparing the floor cloth instructs the reader to sew pillars at the four cardinal points with the colours of the elements, I noticed she associates the east with air but assigns the colour blue (pg.31 for those that have the book). My question is how that tallies with using gold for the east in the Inner Temple medidation or the yellow assoicated with Raphael in the LIRP/LBRP?

Hello again, buscador!

It's good that you are thinking about how the color assignments should look. There are several possibilities. It is certain that east is the cardinal direction of the element of  air, south is fire, west is water and north is earth. In the system we use in the BOEL, the color yellow (gold) is used in the east, because this corresponds to the color of the sun, which rises in the east. The air element is about clarity of mind, speed and lightness, which is well represented by yellow. It is also the case that consciousness, the Ruach in the Qabbalah is associated with Tiferet. There, the sun is associated as the central point of our solar system and a synomym of our individual self. I find this very coherent.
Blue is used in the west because water can be aptly described as bluish. Fire in the south is red, there is probably no incompatibility about that. Finally, in the north we use green, the color of nature and living earth.

In the chapter you describe, blue is used for air in the east, green in the west, and yellow/gold in the north. As far as I understand it, I can understand blue for air, but green for water, that would be rather water in which there are many algae and that is not really healthy. Yellow/gold for the north I don't really think is accurate either. Green fits very well in my opinion. If you want to take something like gold/yellow as an association for autumn, I think that falls short, because the autumn colors are very diverse.

I hope this helps.

Lightful greetings
Oholiab

P.S. Since I know you are interested in it...Concerning a temple floor cloth we cover this topic in Qabbalah Maasit and you may deepen your knowledge of it and find ways to improve your understanding to create one.

Thanks again for another response! For now, I am just perusing Dolores' book but I feel it's probably best to try and stay congruent with the system I adopt. I have looked into the Qabbalah Maasit course and I am hoping to take it if/when it is available in English in Europe.
