Kavvanah appears to be a conjunction of qaveh + nah.

H6960 קָוָה qavah (kaw-vaw') v.
1. to bind together (perhaps by twisting), i.e. collect
2. (figuratively) to expect
[a primitive root]

...and I understand that -nah makes it feminine.  It seems that if the Light is masculine (penetrating, impregnating, empowering) then the recipient is in the feminine role and is thus the bride.  So this is an intimate state of marriage / unity.  The bride should expect (Light) which is definition #2 above.  It seems this expectation is the meaning of "wait (qaveh) on the Lord" (Psalms 37:34).

Do I understand this correctly, and is the the correct etymology?

Hello Qatar,

this is an interesting question and your suggestions on the etymology seem quite possible at  first glance.

My Hebrew is not much advanced yet, but I will have a closer look during the next days and hopefully I will come up with something.  Maybe there are some more forum participants with knowledge of Hebrew who will join in the discussion in the meantime?
